Alternative Healing Today

Before the advent of modern medicine, persons in various cultures employed a number of practices to maintain physical and emotional health. In our time, there are still those who turn to these alternative healing methods when it seems as if traditional medicine is unable to help them. Here's some examples of alternative healing practices and how some people find comfort and help with them.

Perhaps one of the most common alternative healing methods is the use of natural herbs to treat a variety of maladies. Much has been written about the healing qualities of herbs. As an example, herbs such as red clover and scullcap are recommended to help with skin problems such as acne. Ginger, parsley, and peppermint are thought to help with indigestion. Bayberry and Lady's Slipper are used to help maintain good ocular health. The premise is that nature has provided a rich bounty of herbs that can be used to ensure good physical health, if we will only avail ourselves of the healing properties of herbs.

Reiki is another form of alternative healing that has gained a great deal of popularity over the last few decades. Based on the idea that energy composes the basic nature of all matter, Reiki seeks to restore the natural balance of the energy flow within and around our bodies. When this energy source is hampered or diverted, illness can attack us and our bodies will begin to develop health problems. A Reiki practitioner will seek to restore that balance, ultimately leading to restored good health.

Yoga is a discipline that serves as an alternative healing option that is geared toward reconnecting the spirit with the body. When our spirits are not in full harmony with our physical selves, we lose the ability to harness our inner reserves to maintain peace of mind and good physical health. The discipline of yoga serves as a means of helping us to unite our spiritual and physical beings into one cohesive unit that can provide us with the ability from within to heal ourselves.

There is a great deal of information about these and other alternative healing methods available in print and on the Internet. If you are interested in learning more about alternative healing, check out your local health food store as well as consult with a trained homeopathic physician.
